Riot Games Affiliate Program

When I became Director of User Experience for the Player Platform at Riot Games, one of my team members was supporting the Riot Partner Program, which at the time had been through 2 closed pilot trials. We’d gained valuable insight from those trials, but it was clear the initial version of the experience would not be suitable for wider release.

I stepped in to grow my team’s cross-regional support of this critical initiative, collaboratively shaped the strategic vision with the product director, and helped my team launch the public beta in sync with the huge Star Guardian launch for the League of Legends product, with the net effect of enabling Riot influencers to earn money on content sales for the first time in Riot history. Product development for this feature is ongoing.

Impact– Took vision from a functionality-focused vision to a player-focused vision that brought more partners onboard
– Healed communication and working relationship between two previously siloed teams
– Grew UX on Commerce from 1 person to 3 in 3 months, and provided regular performance feedback
– Helped my team draw firm lines to prevent work overload where possible, and partnered with my lead to run root cause where unexpected events caused work spikes
– Coached my UX team to many distributed work process improvements with Slack and meeting arrangements that improved communications and efficiency
– The Affiliate Program Beta launched in July 2022 in tandem with its target campaign, and exceeded all estimates for sales and engagement.
